The brick structure now known as the Yearling Barn was originally constructed as a warehouse to age Whiskey barrels. As the story goes, a fire broke out in the warehouse and charred the aging oak casks. It was found that the charred barrels gave the whiskey a unique flavor and ever since this fire, distillers have charred barrels to flavor "bourbon" whiskey. There is still evidence left in the barn today of that warehouse fire.
